A New Year, A New Day: Rejoicing in What God Has Made
Happy New Year!
This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. Please, Lord, please save us. Please, Lord, please give us success.
A Fresh Start with God
The beginning of a new year often brings excitement, reflection, and renewed hope. We set goals, make resolutions, and imagine what the months ahead may hold. However, before we rush into what’s next, Psalm 118:24–25 invites us to pause and recognize a powerful truth: every day including this new year is a gift from God.
“This is the day the Lord has made” reminds us that today is not random or accidental. It is intentional. God Himself handcrafted this day with purpose. Whether we step into 2026 with confidence or uncertainty, we can rest knowing that God is already present in this moment and in every day ahead.
Choosing to Rejoice in the New Year
The psalmist declares, “We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
This statement reflects a decision, not a feeling. Rejoicing is an act of faith. Rejoicing is not rooted in circumstances, it is rooted in trusting the God who made the day.
As we begin this new year, what if rejoicing became our resolution? Instead of focusing on what feels unfinished or uncertain, we can start each day by praying, “Lord, thank You for this day You have made. I choose to rejoice and be glad in it.” When we do, our perspective shifts, and our hearts become more open to God’s work in us.
Rejoicing is not rooted in circumstances, it is rooted in trusting the God who made the day.
A Prayer for Success That Honors God
Psalm 118:25 continues with an honest prayer: “Please, Lord, please save us. Please, Lord, please give us success.”
This is a humble cry, acknowledging our dependence on God.
Biblical success is not merely personal achievement or outward gain. Instead, it is living in alignment with God’s purpose and allowing His favor to shape our lives. As we plan, build, and pursue goals this year, we can pray:
“Lord, guide my steps. Let my success bring You glory. Save me from relying on my own strength, and lead me according to Your will.”
When our desires align with God’s direction, success becomes fruitfulness, faithfulness, and fulfillment, not just results.
Reflecting on God’s Faithfulness
Looking back, every year holds moments of challenge and grace. Yet through it all, God remains faithful. Every answered prayer, every lesson learned, and every unexpected blessing points back to His goodness.
As you move forward, remember:
- The Lord has made this day and this year.
- You can rejoice and be glad in His presence.
- You can trust Him for salvation, guidance, and success.
No matter what changes around us, God’s love stays constant. His mercies are new every morning and that includes January 1st.
Practical Ways to Live Out Psalm 118 in the New Year
1. Start each morning with gratitude.
Before checking your phone or schedule, thank God for the day He has made.
2. Pray for success that glorifies Him.
Ask God to bless your work, family, and plans while aligning your heart with His will.
3. Choose joy daily.
When challenges arise, remind yourself that rejoicing is a choice, not a reaction.
4. Celebrate progress, not perfection.
This new year is a journey. Every step forward reflects God’s hand at work.
Rejoice and Be Glad in 2026
As this new year unfolds, step forward with confidence and gratitude. God has already gone before you, preparing the way. Each sunrise is an invitation to walk with Him, trust Him, and rejoice in His goodness.
This is the day the Lord has made.
Rejoice. Be glad. Trust Him for success.
May this year be filled with faith, gratitude, and purpose because God is with you, and the best is yet to come.
