No Strings Attached
Loving people with no strings attached is a rare and precious gift. Too often, love comes with expectations, hidden motives, or conditions, making it feel disingenuous and eroding trust.
When love has strings attached, it becomes manipulative and one-sided. But when we experience genuine, unconditional love, it reflects the authenticity Jesus calls us to.
This is the way God loves us—freely and without conditions. He is kind to both the just and the unjust, the wicked and the godly.
Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.
Luke 6:35
Jesus demonstrated this love by dying for us while we were still sinners. He gave freely, expecting nothing in return.
But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
Romans 5:8
This is the model Jesus asks us to follow as His church: Love God and love people.
God’s heart is for people, and as the church, our heart must also be for people. This means actively seeking ways to reach, serve, and love others while showing them Jesus. A thriving church is one that embraces growth and change, moving beyond its walls to impact lives.
Jesus wants to save and transform people, and He uses us to do it. So, we must love others with no strings attached.
What Does This Look Like?
1. Choose to Be Generous
True generosity expects nothing in return. We give to bless others and to reflect Jesus, not to gain something. A generous heart makes a difference, and people recognize when love is genuine. When giving comes with hidden motives, it feels transactional and insincere.
God calls us to have faith in our generosity, trusting that He will bless everyone involved.
2. Choose to Go to People
Jesus commanded us to GO—to reach people, make disciples, and baptize them. But we can’t wait for people to come to us; we must go to them.
This is the heart of outreach. A church that goes to people mirrors a hospital—offering healing, hope, and Jesus to all. We are not an exclusive club or a group of religious elites. We are a place for everyone—seasoned believers, new Christians, and non-believers alike—because we all need Jesus daily.
3. Choose to Remember
We must never forget where we came from and what God has done for us. Reflecting on where we could be without His grace fills us with mercy and compassion for others. Remembering keeps us humble and helps us extend kindness and patience to those still finding their way.
If we become judgmental, negative, or critical, we need to pause and remember how Jesus rescued us. This doesn’t mean we compromise truth, but it does mean we share it with love and grace.
We are not called to be Pharisees or religious gatekeepers—we are called to be Jesus-followers who love without conditions.
