Expectations

Expectations are a big part of our lives. We’ve experienced moments when our expectations were met and we’ve experienced moments when they weren’t.

The dichotomy of our expectations being met and unmet, leaves a mark in us forever.

The moments we’ve had where things went as planned are times that invigorate us with feelings of joy and adulation.

The moments we’ve had when things did not go as planned left us deflated with feelings of sadness and disappointment.

Both of these impact how we navigate expectations right now. There’s no doubt that we all have caution with being vulnerable in getting our expectations too high because we don’t want to be let down again.

I have and it’s normal because we all know the feeling of having expectations being unmet.

But when it comes to God, we can have a different perspective.

”For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

Jeremiah‬ ‭29‬:‭11‬

”The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.“

Psalms‬ ‭37‬:‭23‬

The truth is, God doesn’t lead us to disappointment, but rather to fulfillment and purpose. The challenge is His ways and thoughts and not like ours. So, we have a battle between our ways and thoughts, versus His ways and thoughts. The question is, who is going to win?

The answer to this question determines our expectations and how we navigate them.

If we put more trust in our ways and thoughts, will be on a roller coaster of emotions navigating expectations.

If we put our trust in His ways and thoughts, we’ll be steady through the ups and downs having a growing expectation of what He’s doing and in what is to come!

So, as we approach the end of our 21 days of prayer and fasting, how are you doing with expectations for this year?

It’s my hope you look to Jesus the author and finisher of your faith, believing the best is yet to come. Let His ways and thoughts flood your soul empowering you to have high expectations of what He’s going to do!

We must believe and expect it to receive it.

I’ve heard it said this way, “the atmosphere of expectancy, is the breeding ground for miracles.”

Expectations are contagious and palatable. We can feel it in a church service, sporting event, restaurant, concert, and more. It lifts the room to a higher place of emotion that wasn’t there before. This is because God created us this way; therefore, when our expectations are built on Him, we’re lifted to a higher place!

So, here’s one big thought in walking this out.

Embrace God, doing it His way and not yours!

Remember, His ways and thoughts are not like ours, which means, He’s going to do things that we haven’t thought of or planned. He will make a way for us through a pathway we didn’t know was there.

This is a big deal when it comes to our expectations. I’ve learned to believe for specific things and then see how He will do it, versus me controlling how He does it.

So whatever you’re praying about, give God the space to do it His way. Have peace that He’s able to do it, He wants to do it and He will do it. Our part is to believe and have our expectations on Him!

This is going to be a great year and God is with you daily. He will come through for you.

Expect and believe it! Let your expectations go up to Him.

God bless you and the best is yet to come!
