Legacy Living as a Leader

Legacy living is seeing the time we have on Earth as an opportunity to make a difference. We make a difference by loving and giving to others.

Leadership is serving others! We have to remember this and lead with it in the forefront of our minds. This will help us navigate others, ourselves, conflicts, goals, vision and so much more.

Great leaders build people by serving others.

When we love and give to others we’re reaching for their heart and when they open it, an imprint happens that lasts forever. Legacy is generational because it leaves a mark on someone who then does the same to others. This is why it’s possible to impact people long after our lifetime on Earth has ended.

The truth is, all of us will leave something behind. This is why we must choose to live in a way that gives a legacy that impacts generations for the better.

Jesus modeled this and His word gives instructions on how we can have Legacy Living.

Notice these verses.

“Haughtiness goes before destruction; humility precedes honor.”

Proverbs‬ ‭18‬:‭12‬

“Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.”

Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭4‬

“Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”

Proverbs‬ ‭11‬:‭2‬

The theme of these verses is humility. This is where we make adjustments along the way to stay connected heart to heart. Humility opens hearts, pride closes them. Humility sees what is best for others, pride sees only what’s best for themselves. Humility causes growth, pride causes decline.

Humility is at the core of Legacy Living. It helps us show how much we care about others versus what we know they need to do. This is how we connect heart to heart and leave an imprint.

Living this way empowers us to see the needs of others and then respond to them. This is also how we receive God’s grace.

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

1 Peter‬ ‭5‬:‭5‬

You see humility is being a leader through serving. This is being a leader through Legacy Living!

It sees the big picture, lives for something beyond themselves, and gives freely.

Serving Jesus gives us the chance to leave a Legacy that impacts generations and eternity. Our part is to let Him change us from the inside out and choose His ways over our own.

1st – Look for ways to serve others.

Impact happens when we serve others versus when they serve us. Purpose and fulfillment happen when we serve others versus when they serve us.

There’s something about serving that is healthy, purposeful, and empowering for us in discovering what God wants for us.

This is serving our spouse, family, extended family, friends, local church, workplace, co-workers, and community. It’s looking out and reaching for the people God has brought into our lives.

This is how Jesus made it and we must embrace it to have Legacy Living.

Of course, we must rest, have time for ourselves, and be refreshed. This is a healthy rhythm we need.

What I’m referencing is our posture in life by leading through serving.

Find someone; look for something and begin to serve others.

2nd – Look for ways to give to others.

Giving of our time, talents, and finances is a part of our faith in Jesus. This is an extension of our love, investment, and faith in God by sharing what he’s given to us.

We should not underestimate what giving does through God. It opens doors, helps others, and makes a difference. Too often we can talk ourselves out of giving by demeaning who we are or what we have to give. This is a mistake and it’s not from God.

Jesus can take what we give and use it for more than we can imagine. This is how the Kingdom of God works.

Jesus did this in John when he multiplied a young boy’s lunch.

“There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?”

John‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬

From this gift, Jesus took it and multiplied it to feed over fifteen thousand people and have twelve baskets left over. This shows what happens when we look for ways to give to others.

I believe Jesus multiplies what we give to Him. Through Him, our time, talents, and finances go far beyond what we see and it ripples beyond our reach and our lifetime.

I encourage you to be a giver. Please don’t let cynicism and skepticism rob you of the impact that comes through giving. Let God use you by what He gives through you!

Look for something to give and begin giving. Be a consistent giver in your local church. This is biblically what God wants for us and He has blessings for you in it.

This is Legacy Living.

You make a living by what you get, you leave a legacy by what you give!

Have a great week and the best is yet to come,
