The next day we went on to Caesarea and stayed at the home of Philip the Evangelist, one of the seven men who had been chosen to distribute food. He had four unmarried daughters who had the gift of prophecy.

God’s Design for Every Home
One of the greatest blessings a family can experience is serving God together. Throughout Scripture, we find homes that became places of worship, discipleship, hospitality, and ministry. While God often calls individuals, He also delights in working through families that unite around His purpose.
Acts 21 gives us a brief but powerful glimpse into one such home. Philip the Evangelist faithfully preached the gospel and served the early church. However, his greatest influence wasn’t limited to his public ministry. It reached the people closest to him, his family.
Luke writes:
The next day we went on to Caesarea and stayed at the home of Philip the Evangelist… He had four unmarried daughters who had the gift of prophecy.
In only two verses, Scripture reveals an entire household walking in God’s purpose. Philip faithfully served Christ, and his daughters actively used the spiritual gifts God had entrusted to them. Their lives remind us that building a home on Jesus creates a lasting spiritual legacy. What Does It Mean to Build a Home on Jesus?
Building a home on Jesus means far more than attending church each week. It means making Christ the foundation of your family’s values, decisions, conversations, priorities, and relationships.
Every family member has an important role.
Parents intentionally disciple.
Children learn to love and obey God.
Every believer discovers and develops the spiritual gifts God has given them.
When Christ becomes the center of the home, faith moves beyond conversation and becomes a daily lifestyle.
Philip’s Home Became a Place of Ministry
Philip first appears in Acts 6 as one of seven men chosen because they were full of wisdom and the Holy Spirit. Later, God used him to preach in Samaria and lead the Ethiopian official to Christ.
Years later, when Paul traveled through Caesarea, he stayed in Philip’s home.
That small detail speaks volumes.
Philip never retired from serving God.
His ministry extended beyond the streets and into his living room. His home became a place where God’s presence was welcomed, people were encouraged, and faith flourished.
Even more encouraging, Philip’s daughters didn’t simply admire their father’s faith, they developed their own relationship with God. The Holy Spirit empowered each of them with the gift of prophecy, demonstrating that every generation can participate in God’s Kingdom.

Your Example Shapes the Next Generation
Children learn far more from what they observe than from what they hear.
Philip’s daughters witnessed:
- His love for Jesus.
- His obedience to God’s calling.
- His generous heart.
- His hospitality.
- His commitment to sharing the gospel.
Faith became normal inside their home because Philip consistently lived what he believed.
Although parents cannot choose faith for their children, they can faithfully model what it looks like to follow Christ.
Your greatest sermon may never be preached from a platform. Instead, it may be demonstrated around your dinner table.
Every Family Member Has a Purpose
Acts 21 reminds us that every believer has value in God’s Kingdom.
Philip served as an evangelist.
His daughters exercised the gift of prophecy.
Different gifts.
One Holy Spirit.
One mission.
Healthy Christian families encourage every member to discover and use their God-given calling.
Children are never too young for God to work through them.
Teenagers don’t have to wait until adulthood before making an eternal impact.
Adults never outgrow their purpose.
God equips every generation to help build His Kingdom.
Building a Home on Jesus Happens One Day at a Time
Strong homes don’t happen accidentally. They grow through intentional, everyday choices that keep Christ at the center.
Consider building these habits into your family’s rhythm:
- Read God’s Word together.
- Pray together.
- Worship together.
- Serve others together.
- Practice forgiveness quickly.
- Show hospitality generously.
- Encourage one another regularly.
Simple, consistent habits often produce extraordinary spiritual fruit over time.
Your First Ministry Is Your Family
Sometimes we become so busy serving at church that we unintentionally neglect serving the people inside our own home.
God never designed ministry to replace our responsibility to our families.
Our first ministry begins at home.
Love your spouse well.
Teach your children faithfully.
Pray together often.
Share meals.
Encourage one another daily.
These ordinary moments become sacred opportunities when Christ remains at the center.
Strong homes build strong churches, and healthy families strengthen communities.
Leave a Legacy That Lasts
Philip’s greatest accomplishment may not have been the crowds who heard him preach.
His greatest achievement may have been raising daughters who loved Jesus enough to follow Him wholeheartedly.
The world often celebrates financial inheritance.
God celebrates spiritual inheritance.
Your children may not remember every lesson you teach, but they will remember how you loved, how you prayed, how you trusted God during difficult seasons, how you served others, and how faithfully you followed Jesus.
Those memories become the foundation upon which future generations build their lives.
Final Thoughts
Every family has an opportunity to build a home on Jesus. Whether your household is large or small, young or old, God can use your home to make an eternal impact.
Start where you are today.
Pray together.
Worship together.
Serve together.
Grow together.
As you intentionally place Christ at the center of your home, you’ll build a spiritual legacy that reaches far beyond your lifetime.
