Crossing the finish line

Conversations at the Finish Line

This can be a question that brings down the mood, but it’s worth thinking about. Furthermore, it’s worth answering because when we think about the end, we can maximize the present and the future.

It’s sad when these conversations are full of regret, unresolved issues, and lamenting wasted time, and decisions.

What’s great is when these conversations are full of love, laughter, thankfulness for the moments, tearful goodbyes, and a life that gave it all.

Of course, we want great conversations but the truth is, that might not be the case for some people.

The tragedy is, when this happens, it’s a life that was incomplete and that left brokenness in its wake. These ripples impact generations and hearts are hurting.

But there’s good news, we can live a life that empowers conversations that are great at the finish line.

“When clouds are heavy, the rains come down. Whether a tree falls north or south, it stays where it falls.”‬

Ecclesiastes‬ ‭11‬:‭3

Notice, where the tree falls is where it is. This is why it’s so important to live without regret and to maximize our time in making memories and giving love.

This is what matters and this is what God created for us. He made us to know Jesus, know others, and love both with all our hearts. Especially our families!

How you’re living, loving, forgiving, and giving right now, will determine what those conversations will be.

I’m determined to live without regret and to do my best to live a life of love through my faith! I want great conversations at the finish line, and to leave a legacy that gives love, laughter, care, memories, and impact.

What do you want?

So, here are three things we can do to have great conversations at the finish line.

1st – Spend time together.

There’s something special about spending time together. This is where we bond, make memories, have fun, support each other, and build relationships.

However, right now, people are more lonely than ever before. This is the most lonely generation in history, which speaks to the isolation that technology has produced and the busyness of our pace.

This is not good and we must combat it!

God made us to spend time together. This is why I encourage you to be intentional with family gatherings, have family time, play games, stir conversation, and say, “I love you” every day!

Today is a gift, which is why it’s called the present. So give it your heart and make it count.

2nd – Say “I’m sorry” and make it right.

I’m shocked at how many people wait until the end of their lives to begin saying sorry or don’t say it at all. This is a disaster that leaves broken hearts and broken homes in its wake.

The sad part of waiting to say sorry at the end is that you don’t have time to rebuild the connection. The apology is good but it’s great when it’s done in the moment, so rebuilding can be done.

Regret is a horrible burden to carry and we don’t have to carry it.

We can say sorry and be free, build bonds, and grow in the relational connection.

Do you need to say sorry to someone?

3rd – Have fun

It’s important to have fun! We need this and we don’t need it to be sensational either.

Simple board games, hanging around a fire, having a movie night, being together, doing a hobby, being outside, and making a memory. I think anything is better than being on our phones isolated.

This of course doesn’t mean life should be one big party and that everything is great and fun. That’s not reality nor is it sustainable. We should be there when we cry when we go through tough times, and when things don’t work out.

But, we should also have fun and be intentional about it. This means we plan it, think through it, and have time for it.

It’s good to remember that God made laughter and He wants to laugh and have fun.

So I encourage you to have fun. Make it happen and build bonds right now with your family and friends. Make memories and make it count.

Live a life that will have great conversations at the finish line.
