A happy couple

Everyday Love Story

There’s something about love stories that move us and draw us in. We know this based on the demand it produces through movies, books, plays, sitcoms, and more.

We watch and read about love stories because we want one ourselves. This is inherently given to us by God as He gave Adam Eve in the Garden of Eden. God gave a family before He gave us the church and God gave a love story as the first story in the Bible.

“22. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. 23. “At last!” the man exclaimed. “This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken from ‘man.’”

Genesis‬ ‭2‬:‭22‬-‭23‬

God created males and females for His purpose and for couples to have a love story that forms a family and has the potential for generational impact!

However, one of the drawbacks of watching romances is its sensational nature. This gives unrealistic expectations of how we think it works with communication, intimacy, family, schedules, and more.

Too many couples can be disappointed in the letdown of how it’s not sensational but rather day-to-day in the grind of life.

But everyday love stories are the best because they’re not living for the moment but rather living in the moment and enjoying the process of doing life together, building a family, and leaving a legacy that is generational and eternal.

This of course has ups and downs, twists and turns, and in the end… it’s worth it for us personally and for so many more.

There’s something powerful about making a vow to our spouse that builds an everyday love story. It builds a family, and our lives, and enhances our faith in Jesus.

So, when we hear of everyday love stories we think of getting the kids to and from school, paying bills, getting a schedule, staying focused, having fun, working, navigating each other, and more.

Every day love stories are building something consistently through all of the responsibilities that we are navigating. This is reality and yet there’s something powerful about building a family and growing a love story that lives past our lifetime.

The joy of life is the journey through it with our families. When we focus on living in the moment, we can experience peace, contentment, and joy through Jesus.

Please know this, your love story matters, your family matters, your decisions matter, and your faith in Jesus matters.

So, here are three practical ways to inspire your everyday love story.

1st – Have consistent dates.

This could be challenging based on our schedules and when you add kids in the mix, it could be even harder. But we have found that consistent dating fuels communication, love, and connection.

For Sumer and I, Friday morning is our date. I can’t remember the last time we had a date at night, based on our family’s schedule. But, we’ve made it work and we love Friday mornings. It’s our time and it’s our rhythm and it works.

Dating varies based on availability, budget, and time. The focus shouldn’t be on having a sensational date, but rather it should be on just having time together. This could be any time of the day and doing a variety of activities, but it’s the decision to do it that matters most.

2nd – Dream together.

Communication is probably the greatest challenge in any marriage. It has to be worked out and developed continually so that the couple grows together over time. Communication is a powerful bridge that links our hearts together and causes us to thrive as a couple.

The same as true and dreaming together.

I believe couples should share their dreams, help each other, and support each other to do it. This is a big deal because too many people lose their dreams and give up on what could be. This could be in business, creativity, travel, and so much more.

When couples dream together, it helps couples to communicate and have teamwork for a specific goal. This is healthy and keeps the fire burning in our connection and hope. I’m not talking about fantasy, but I am talking about dreaming big and having fun doing it. Something powerful happens when couples have a dream and reach for it together.

We always hear about individuals having dreams. I think it’s even better for couples to have dreams. Pray, and do it together. This is a big deal and developing an everyday love story you are living.

What’s your dream, don’t give up and share it with your spouse. Dream it together.

3rd – Protect each other.

One of the eight essential needs we have as humans to thrive is to feel safe. We need it and we have to have it to open up our hearts and grow.

Couples must protect each other. This is spiritually, physically, emotionally, sexually, verbally, financially, and relationally. This may sound basic or obvious, but the truth is we have to remember that our spouse must know we have their back and we stand with them.

Practically speaking, this can mean, standing up to extended family members that are trying to cross boundaries. Helping our spouses, having a hard conversation, and speaking up for themselves. Working together with discipline for children so that they cannot divide you. when things come up from the past, give a safe space for our spouse to talk and find healing.

These are just some examples of how this can look, but it’s so important and walk it out to thrive in our everyday love story. God’s nature is to protect us. When we get married, our nature in that relationship should be the same.

When we get married, we choose to serve our spouse, and when two people serve each other something powerful happens. It’s a love story that lasts decades and impacts generations and eternity.

I encourage you to do so and don’t quit. This is a marathon, not a sprint and our love story is worth living and worth doing.

I believe your family has a purpose and God has great things for you.

Have a great day and the best is yet to come,

PD
