How To Strengthen Your Marriage In A Busy Season
Right now, our family’s schedule is packed—how about yours?
Some nights, we’ve got four kids going in four different directions. It’s beautiful and chaotic. But let’s be honest—juggling it all can drain your energy and leave your marriage running on fumes.
Sumer and I are doing our best to stay present and enjoy this season because we know it won’t last forever. The saying is true: “The days are long, but the years are short.”
In the middle of this fast-paced life, we’ve had to ask ourselves:
How do we stay connected and refreshed as a married couple?
This is a big deal—because when the marriage is strong, the family is strong. Our connection as husband and wife impacts every part of our lives. Yet it’s often the first thing to get overlooked.
So here’s my encouragement for every married couple (and every future one too):
Make time to make it count.
God designed marriage to be a sacred bond—a deep connection that reflects His heart and purpose.
This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. Now the man and his wife were both naked, but they felt no shame.
Genesis 2:24–25
Marriage is meant to be close, safe, and life-giving. But that connection doesn’t happen by accident. We have to plan for it.
1. Create a Weekly Connection Time
Intentional one-on-one time doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive—it just has to happen.
Whether it’s a quick breakfast, coffee before the kids wake up, or lunch during your work break, pick a weekly rhythm that works for your schedule. The key is consistency, not perfection.
Sumer and I have breakfast together every Friday morning—no matter what. That’s what our schedule allows right now, and we love it. It strengthens our marriage and gives us space to reconnect. Make time to make it count. Don’t wait for time to appear-create it.
Make time to make it count. Don’t wait for time to appear-create it.
These small, consistent touchpoints build connection over time. Even if it’s just 30 minutes, it can refresh your relationship and help you stay emotionally aligned.
2. Plan Time Alone as a Couple
This could be a staycation, a one-night getaway, or even just quiet time at home. You don’t need a luxury vacation—just intentional time together.
Ask family or friends to watch the kids. Trade babysitting with another couple. Do what you can, with what you have, to get time alone.
There’s something powerful about being alone with your spouse. You reconnect spiritually, emotionally, and physically. That kind of intimacy is needed long after the honeymoon.
When we’re intentional about spending uninterrupted time together, our bond grows deeper and stronger.
3. Encourage Each Other Weekly
This might be the most overlooked but powerful practice in marriage: regular encouragement.
Don’t assume your spouse knows how you feel. Tell them. Share one thing you admire, appreciate, or love about them—every week.
Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.
Proverbs 16:24
Look your spouse in the eye. Say something heartfelt. It doesn’t have to be long—just real. These moments of verbal affirmation bring life and build emotional intimacy.
You could comment on their character, compliment a specific act of kindness, or say how much you value their support. One meaningful word can shift the atmosphere in your home.
Final Thoughts on Strengthening Your Marriage
Marriage is a gift—but it requires time and intention.
Take small steps, and God will help you take big leaps forward together.
Make time to make it count—not just for your spouse, but for your kids, your family, your future, and your legacy.
You are worth it. Your marriage is worth it.
And I believe with all my heart:
Make time to make it count. Don’t wait for time to appear—create it.
The best is yet to come.
