Why Consistency Matters
Today was another great Sunday. Church was outstanding and after the services, my family got our usual lunch of chipotle to-go and had dinner around the table.
We discussed church, what they got out of the message, and the upcoming week. Then, we took naps. We do this almost every Sunday, and it’s great.
It’s not sensational but it’s special and predictable. These moments are precious because one day our kids will be married and have their own families. Sunday after church will look different but the consistency today will impact their tomorrow.
Being consistent matters!
Whether big or small, these efforts make a difference over time and lay a foundation for growth and development.
This is especially true with families!
Having consistency in our homes breeds safety, confidence, and growth. For families to grow together, there must be stability for it to happen.
So what we do with today matters.
It won’t always be a home run but if it’s consistent, it will build to home run moments!
“This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalms 118:24
Today matters!
I’m learning it’s the small efforts that lead to a big outcome. For example, the other night I made a McDonalds run for my kids. I got my son the wrong sandwich and he didn’t eat what I got him.
After everyone ate I felt that I needed to go back to McDonalds and get him the right one. It was a small effort and a little annoyance to make a moment with him.
When I brought the sandwich to him his face lit up and I could see it touched him.
This moment didn’t change the world, but it meant something to his world. This is why I’m talking about being consistent with the big and small things.
It lays a foundation that builds bonds that impact generations.
This idea is true about our diet, getting in shape, building wealth, having long-term success, and more. Consistency matters!
This is also true in being consistent with the wrong things. It shows up and makes a negative impact. A bad diet, negating our bodies, spending all our money, only think about today and more.
So my challenge is this, let’s be consistent with the right things that build a strong family.
Here are fifteen things that are consistent with doing the right things.
Say I love you daily to your family.
Make time for one-on-one moments.
Have fun.
Laugh as much as you can.
Have dinner together.
Care about what your family cares about.
Serve your family.
Empower them to be leaders.
Show them how to love God by your example.
Cultivate open conversations that come from trust.
Pray together.
Go to church together.
Serve others together.
Celebrate what Jesus has done.
Live in the moment.
Which one of these speaks to you?
I encourage you to make your own list and choose to be consistent with the right things.
It’s matters! It’s working! It’s setting up something great!
God loves your family and the best is yet to come!
