Overcoming Giants

Overcoming Giants

One of the greatest stories ever told is David and Goliath.

It’s the ultimate underdog story that gives us hope that we can overcome too. It’s a miracle story about a teenage boy from a poor family, who was a shepherd of his father’s sheep.

He then is anointed as king which sets up the following events in his life. He chooses to face the giant, Goliath, because he’s defying God and David wins. David, the teenage shepherd, rescues Israel and eventually becomes their greatest king against all odds and common sense.

God promoted David from nothing and made him great.

“70. He chose his servant David, calling him from the sheep pens. 71. He took David from tending the ewes and lambs and made him the shepherd of Jacob’s descendants— God’s own people, Israel. 72. He cared for them with a true heart and led them with skillful hands.”

Psalms‬ ‭78‬:‭70‬-‭72‬

This story connects to all of us today because we have Goliaths in our lives too.

It could come in the form of fear, sickness, family patterns, addiction, setbacks, depression, anxiety, weaknesses, insecurities, shame, guilt, and more.

But like David, we have a choice to make. We choose to face our giants or run from them. If we’re honest, it’s easier to run from them than face them because when we face our giants, we’re facing ourselves.

As leaders, we must choose to face our giants and face ourselves. This is how we grow and move forward in life. Giants are trying to intimidate us from moving forward. God is trying to empower us to move forward and take our place as leaders.

Notice David’s choice to face Goliath and himself, propelled him forward toward the leadership God had for him. This is the same for us today.

Every miracle begins with a problem and with our GOD, nothing is impossible.

The only way we’re going to win against our giants is through Jesus. It’s Him that gives us the strength to stand and the foundation to build on. He is our rock!

So, what’s your giant?

The good news is we can defeat it and have what God wants us to have. When we defeat our giants, we become a giant for GOD!

That’s right. The giants against us are trying to make us feel like grasshoppers, but through God, our giants are grasshoppers. In Jesus, we are mighty and empowered. Without Him, we’re weak and defeated. We serve a God who delivers us from our giants and gives us victory.

So, here are three ways to overcome your giants.

1st – Make God BIG.

We’re tempted to make our problem bigger than God. When we do that our focus and perspective are not right. Therefore, we must remember to make God BIG in whatever we face because He’s always bigger, greater, stronger, wiser, and more. With God, we always have the advantage.

So, when we’re facing a giant, we must make God BIG by remembering what He’s done and thanking Him for it.

David did this when he faced Goliath.

“34. But David persisted. “I have been taking care of my father’s sheep and goats,” he said. “When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock, 35. I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death. 36. I have done this to both lions and bears, and I’ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God!”

1 Samuel‬ ‭17‬:‭34‬-‭36‬

Notice how David remembered what God did for him before and that gave him confidence to face Goliath.

No matter what you’re facing today, make God BIG. Remember what He’s done and give Him thanks for all of it. Magnify God above your giant and put Him on the throne of your life. He’s always bigger and He always wins!

2nd – Believe God’s word.

This is huge! God’s word reveals His heart and plan for our lives. It shows us what He wants to do and what He will do. What He’s looking for is those who believe Him to do it.

“Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?”

Isaiah‬ ‭43‬:‭13‬

Notice He’s working, who will let it? Will you let God work in you?

Another way of saying this is, that God is ready to move, and if we don’t receive it, He’ll find someone who will.

So, our job is to believe His word, stand on His word, and speak His word out loud. This is how we connect it from our head to our heart. Our faith is released by believing and speaking (see Romans 10:9-10).

Speak the word of God out loud at your giant and it will fall.

For example, If it’s fear, speak Psalms 34:4 at it and choose to believe God’s word over anything else.

His word is alive and it works. Choose God and believe His word. Your victory is coming.

3rd – Worship God.

When we worship God we’re exalting Him as God in our lives. We’re also focusing on Him and what we focus on is what we become like.

Have you ever hung out with someone so much that you began to sound like them, talk like them, and imitate them with ease? This is common because, what we’re around and what we focus on, is what we emulate.

When we worship God we’re focusing on Him, which helps us to be who He says we are and to do what He says we can do.

For example, when we worship Jesus we become stable because He is stable. We become clean and purified because He is holy. We become peaceful because He’s the prince of peace. We receive healing because He’s the healer.

So, worshiping God is what we do and it’s who we are as Christ’s followers. We lift our hearts, our voices, and our strength to worship Him.

This is our lifestyle; therefore, when we face a giant it’s automatic and we take on His nature through worshiping Him. From this place, we can overcome our giants and have the strength to walk forward one step at a time.

Whatever giant you’re facing, God is greater, God is bigger and God is the answer. Move forward in His power and believe that that giant is going to fall.

I encourage you to put these three steps into practice and let God have a chance to give you a great victory in your life.

Have a great day and the best is yet to come,

PD
