Patterns With Ourselves

The patterns we have with ourselves are the most important because they can determine so much of our lives.

Patterns are intertwined with our daily lives. They are acted out with ease as we develop them in a plethora of ways. Some of these patterns are good and others are not.

The challenging part of patterns is that the ones that aren’t good for us, seem to impact us more than the good ones. This is why it’s so important to evaluate our patterns and make the necessary adjustments.

All of these have a massive impact on our lives and if we let God in them, we will see His promises and purposes in full reality.

If we keep God out, we may short-circuit our potential and miss out on what God could do through us.

We have a part to play in this and the more we let God in our patterns the better we’ll be. Our position is to have humility and be under the hand of God. Choosing His ways, His thoughts, and His patterns over our own.

This is what the Bible says we can give to God.

”The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.“

Psalms‬ ‭51‬:‭17‬

The only way we can give God this is through humility. We must acknowledge that some of our patterns need to change and others need to be fortified.

When we humble ourselves before God, we’re empowered to have life change. We’re empowered to break off the bad patterns and receive more good ones.

1st – Our pattern with God.

I encourage you to schedule a daily pattern with God. Meaning, you have a rhythm that empowers you to read the Bible, pray, and be active in your church. When we schedule this and have a plan for it, we can develop a long-term pattern with it.

This pattern cascades down to all the other things in our lives. When Jesus is first, everything else can be in order.

”Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.“

Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭33‬

This is what we want; therefore, we must plan it and then do it. This is how we create a new pattern with God that is sustainable and becomes a part of our lifestyle.

Let 2024 be the year your pattern with God goes to a new level of consistency and connection with Jesus. He’s ready for us to move closer to Him.

2nd – Our pattern with relationships.

This is BIG! Every day we’re engaging with someone. Our families are usually closest to us and this is where the good, the bad, and the ugly patterns surface.

Have you been there?

Yes! We all have got it right and got it wrong in relationships especially when there’s tension or an argument. I know I’ve made too many mistakes with this because I had the wrong patterns in place to handle conflict. This caused me to fight unfairly and be mean in these moments.

But, when I humbled myself to God and let Him heal me deeper, I was empowered to live out new patterns in these moments. I’m not perfect in this, but I’m so much healthier now because my patterns have changed.

I pray 2024 is the year you adopt new patterns to have healthy conversations and you grow as a listener and as a communicator. God wants us to thrive in this because it’s impossible to do life without conflict with others.

Any meaningful relationship will have moments of tension, period. So, the more we let Jesus in this area of our lives, the better we’ll be.

Please look for patterns of over-talking, interrupting, being defensive, proving points, proving you’re right, and being stubborn. These things and more are patterns that are unhealthy and damaging to any relationship. God has better.

Here’s a great pattern from God for us to grow in.

”Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.“

James‬ ‭1‬:‭19‬

Go for it! God is with you.

3rd – Our pattern with food.

This is massive because we need food for the nourishment of our bodies. However, food can easily be a comfort we go to in facing stress, grief, disappointment, success and so much more.

This is where food can become a determent regarding our health. But, I believe that God can help us with our diet and give us self-control as needed. God made us, He knows us and He designed us, which means, He can lead us in what’s best with our diet.

”A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.“

Proverbs‬ ‭25‬:‭28‬

Every day I pray this verse over me in the opposite meaning, I pray that I have self-control and I’m like a city with fortified walls.

I don’t know about you but I need more self-control in my diet and I’m reaching out to Jesus for it.

So consider the patterns of your diet and if there’s an area that could be better, ask God to help you. When we invite Him in it, He’s empowered to do something about it.

It’s good for us to remember that He cares about every detail of our lives! Including our diet and health.

I hope that 2024 is the best year of your life and that God is moving in your patterns. He’s good and His mercy endures forever.

Have a great week and the best is yet to come,

PD
