What’s Your Dream?
What’s your dream?
For business leaders, there can be both small and big dreams, but there’s no doubt we have a dream. This is the WHY of what motivated us to be a leader and move forward with the risk of doing something.
It takes courage to go for your dreams and reach for something more.
But this is how GOD works through our lives. To do anything beyond what we see or beyond our ability, we have to step out through faith.
Faith is spelled, R.I.S.K. That’s right! There’s always a risk but with GOD we have the promise He’s with us and will sustain us.
“The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.”
Psalms 37:23
For our dreams to come to pass, big doors will need to be opened for us. This could be a dream contract and sale, a promotion, an opportunity, and more. Dreams are fulfilled with opportunities that present themselves to us. When the right door opens, we must walk through it. When GOD opens the door, we have to move forward.
“I will give him the key to the house of David—the highest position in the royal court. When he opens doors, no one will be able to close them; when he closes doors, no one will be able to open them.”
Isaiah 22:22
But through all the hustle and efforts we do daily, we must remember that Big Doors swing on little hinges.
What does this mean for us?
Hinges stay in place and have a boring job. They hold the door to the frame and allow it to open and close. Some hinges are fancy and others are simple, but all hinges do the same thing.
However, without hinges doors wouldn’t work and we would have sheets tacked to the frame for a make-shift door.
For us as business leaders, hinges represent the daily efforts and at times the mundane things we do. This is huge because our daily schedules will determine our productivity. If we’re focused and working on the right things, we’re going to get the right results. If we’re wandering or distracted, we won’t get the traction we need for greater opportunities.
In the moments of our schedules, it can feel like we’re spinning the wheel going nowhere but the truth is, when we’re consistent with the small hinges, a big door is bound to open.
So, here are three ways to value small hinges.
1st – Know what you’re working on.
This is a big challenge for me because it’s easy to get distracted in five different directions. But it’s so valuable to take a step back and process what I should be doing as a leader. Once we locate what we should be doing, our next job is to make sure that is all we do. This is why having a good team and delegation is so important.
Hinges know their job and they do it. For us, we must know our role and what we should be doing. When this happens it will allow us to be prepared for a big door opening for us.
Do you know what you should be doing?
I encourage you to make a list work plan and do what you do best. If you can’t do this right away, then begin to take steps toward it.
2nd – Be consistent with your standard.
This is the genius of Chick-fil-A. No matter which one you go to across the country, we will get the same service because they are consistent with the standard they have set. This creates trust and dependability which causes us to go back.
Big doors open when we’re consistent with the small hinges, or the standard we set. Opportunities happen on purpose because we’re doing things on purpose.
I believe that God opens the doors for us when he sees our consistency with the standard we have set. The gifts and abilities we have come from God. Their development of them comes from us. Being consistent is a way we develop what we have.
“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.”
Luke 16:10
3rd – Have a clear why.
Our why is the passion for our what. It’s why we’re doing this and it’s why we have purpose. When we know why the vision is clear and focused. We’re motivated and inspired which sustains us through the ups and downs.
This is so important because when we feel like quitting or that it’s not working, then why keeps us fueled. It gives us the courage to take one more step and reach for our dream.
When we’re confident with our why, the hinges become important and we value the small things we do. The why causes us to keep caring in the day-to-day grind.
What’s your why?
Don’t give up. Big doors are going to open through the small hinges.
Every dream goes through a test of perseverance. So I encourage you to keep believing, keep reaching and keep learning. The greatest opportunities are in front of you and big doors are going to open.
You’re meant to be here and the best is yet to come.
